BBQ Bloody Mary
8 cups tomato juice (or V-8, if you prefer)
1 cup vodka (Try the cayenne vodka, if you like it really spicy)
1/3 cup lemon juice (fresh, preferably)
2 to 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup Memphis-style BBQ sauce (I like Rendezvous, Germantown Commissary, Corky’s or any tomato based bbq sauce)
1 tablespoon horseradish
2 teaspoons Tabasco (less or none if you prefer)
1 teaspoon celery salt
Lime or Lemon wedges
Celery salt or Dry Rib rub*, for rim of glass
Optional garnishes:
Celery ribs, cherry tomatoes, pickled okra, marinated or pickled shrimp, pickled jalapenos, olives, the list is endless
In a large glass pitcher, combine tomato juice, vodka, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, BBQ sauce, horseradish, Tabasco, and celery salt. Set aside to allow flavors to blend. Meanwhile prep 8 glasses. Rub the rim of the glass with either, lime or lemon wedges or dip them in a saucer of vodka. Remove excess and dip the rim of the glasses in celery salt or dry rib rub. Add ice to glasses, fill with Bloody Mary mix and garnish as desired.
Makes 8 servings
Just a Thought:
To make a more traditional Bloody Mary, eliminate the BBQ sauce and Rib Rub from the recipe.
