Chocolate Chip Cookie Scones

Chocolate Chip Cookie Scones

2 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons chilled butter, cubed
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
½ cup cold whole buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla (I use Mexican vanilla-it has a cinnamon flavor)
1 egg, well beaten
Turbinado sugar for topping scones

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a food processor, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Pulse several times until mixture is blended. Add chilled butter cubes and pulse several times until a sandy mixture forms. Mix together the buttermilk and vanilla. Through the feed tube, pour the buttermilk mixture and pulse until a ball begins to form. Remove dough from processor and knead in chocolate chips. Form dough into an 8-inch circle and cut into 8 equal pieces. Place triangles on a parchment lined baking sheet. Brush triangles with beaten egg and sprinkle, generously, with Turbinado sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 17 minutes or until golden brown. These smell like chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven.

I made some changes, but it is basically the same recipe.
